Have you heard? The 2011 Miss. South Carolina has a platform of "eating healthy and fighting obesity", and she actually lost 110lbs by changing the way she ate and working out. Now that's a beauty queen I will cheer for. Check out her story....

I hope that this is all real and true. I am the first person in line to hate steryotypes and I don't want to encourage little girls to feel like they aren't special or important because they aren't a beauty queen, but I also realize that while some little girls want to be bmx riders some little girls want to wear a crown. I think that just like food, everything needs to be taken in moderation. Princesses, pink, dresses, sparkly gowns and all of that may not be your cup of tea, but ultimately that's not that I got here, I read that this is a beauty queen who knows what it's like to struggle with her weight and identity. I will take this young woman (again, if the story is true) and Princess Kate over the spoiled rich girls of the world any day. This young woman will teach my daughter to work hard to get what you want, and that real life Princess I mentioned....well it seems to me she shows quite a bit of class.
